Birmingham, Ala. – Virginia College has opened their first medical billing and coding business and are offering local physicians first class, professional reimbursement services utilizing the EHS CareRevolution® software, and at the same time are allowing students in the school’s Medical Billing and Coding program to see how classroom theory translates in a real world environment.
EHS, a Birmingham-based company, developed CareRevolution, an electronic health record (EHR)and practice management software system that allows medical practices to run more effectively and profitably with a single, comprehensive “Point-of-Care” system.
The new business allows physician practices to outsource their coding and billing needs to experienced, professional personnel at Virginia College Healthcare Reimbursement Services, an operation run separately from the school. Observing the work of these professionals are Virginia College students who are about to graduate from the Medical Billing and Coding and Healthcare Reimbursement programs, allowing them to see first hand how these processes are conducted in actual business settings. In addition to the practical application of the billing and coding software and observation, the students are able to monitor through dual headsets actual conversations between the billing personnel and the insurance companies.
“We believe that our externship program will enhance the employment opportunities for our students,” said Jeff Reiner who oversees the professional medical billing operations for Virginia College. “They graduate with actual knowledge of how a physician’s billing office works and have been trained on one of the best EHR and practice management software programs available. This gives them a distinct edge in today’s workforce and enhances the classroom knowledge they acquire.”
“By offering this service, Virginia College has ideally positioned itself to provide both the services needed by physicians and those needed by a talent pool of graduates preparing to enter the workforce who are eager to be prepared on the first day of employment,” said Gavin Lawson of EHS. “As more and more physicians are implementing EHR systems, the fact these students are trained on CareRevolution, one of the top EHR and practice management programs available, will make them immensely attractive to prospective employers.” About Virginia College
